David Crosby & Friends - The Perro Sessions 1971 - Part 01 - 4Cd (Flac)

The Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra is a nickname given to artists who recorded together in the early 1970s. They were predominantly members of Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Their first album together was Blows Against the Empire, when they were known as Jefferson Starship. The name changed to Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra for the next album, David Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name. During the sessions for Crosby's album at Wally Heider Studios, the musicians of each band were invited to the sessions and rehearsed hours of material, and everything was recorded. Material played during these recorded sessions in 1971 was used for Crosby's album (the "PERRO Chorus" is credited on the song, "What Are Their Names") and several other solo albums after Crosby's (see discography). The name Jefferson Starship was later used for Paul Kantner and Grace Slick's new band formed in 1974. Paul Kantner recorded a solo album in 1983 as a tribute to this time, Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra.

Jean-Jacques Kravetz - Kravetz (1972 great germany heavy prog - flac)

Jean Jacques Kravetz is a french multi-instrumentalist (piano, keyboard, sax) and fruitful composer who released his whole career in Germany. He first made a name in Hamburg musical scene. In a relative discretion he published a solo effort simply called Kravetz (1972). In this solo excursion he was accompanied by the famous Udo Lindenberg on drums. Musically, the album is a pleasant combination between heavy fuzzy organs and krauty improvs. Kravetz is mostly known for being the keyboardist of Frumpy, Kin Pink Meh and Atlantis. Today he is recognised as one the great pionniers of German rock.

This is one of my all time favourite early 70's Krautrock related LP's. Highly underrated, and I've never grown tired of listening to it.
'Jean-Jacques Kravetz' is of course the renowned keyboardist of the great German band Frumpy.
Born in Paris in 1947, he moved to Hamburg Germany in 1967, where he was one of the co founders of the great aforementioned German band.
This was his first solo album released in 1972. Jean is backed by the superb musicianship of Udo Lindenberg(drums), Carl-G. Stephan(bass) and Thomas Kretzschmer(guitar).
The lineup here is actually 'The Udo Lindenberg Band' with Kravetz at the helm. Though this was much more in the 'heavy progressive' vein in comparisonn to Udo's much more commercial sounding solo output that came later.
Female vocalist spectacular 'Inga Rumpf' (Frumpy/Atlantis) also makes a guest appearance on the opening track 'I'd Like To Be A Child Again'. Udo takes over the vocal duties on the rest of the album.
The band are super tight here, and musically it definitely surpasses anything recorded by Atlantis, and in my opinion, rivals some of Frumpy's best material as well.
The only real downside I can see are the somewhat patchy vocal arrangements. But the instrumental passages (and there's many) are worth the price of admission alone. Highly recommended!

Hookfoot - Live In Memphis USA 1972 (Uk great blend of rock, soul & blues - 1990 edition - flac)

Hookfoot was a quintet formed at the end of the '60s as a recording unit by a half-dozen session players associated with Dick James' publishing and later with his DJM Records label. They never made much of an impression on the charts, despite their work being licensed to A&M Records, through which they released four LPs in the U.S.A. Ian Duck (vocals, harmonica), Dave Glover (bass), Roger Pope (drums, vocals), and Caleb Quaye (guitar, vocals) were the original lineup, with Bob Kulick (guitar, vocals) coming in alongside Quaye, and Fred Gandy joining on bass later.(Bruce Eder)

Does anyone remember how good this group was besides me? This is the fourth release (after Hookfoot, Good Times A Comin, Communication, and Roaring),that I can find from one of the most underated groups from England in the early 70's;Hookfoot. Eight live tracks(5 from the various studio releases) that show what a great band these guys were! A talented guitar band led by Caleb Quaye, and Ian Duck, this four piece band with Roger Pope and Dave Glover/Freddy Gandy could play it all; loud and funky rock n'roll, electric or acoustic blues, combined with great lyrics and superb musicianship. If you can find this disc check it out, because this may be the only Hookfoot music you'll be able to listen to on CD anytime soon. It's a decent recording(considering the time it was made),and shows a "live" sound most fans like me never got to hear. See if you agree with me, that these guys played great music that sounded like nothing else from England that was being played in 1972- it'll make you feel young again!!(By wwwperkmp)

Plan 9 - Sea Hunt (1987 Us great neo-psychedelic rock - flac)

Plan 9 is an American neo-psychedelic band from Rhode Island formed in 1979.
So it was 1979 and a bunch of psyched-up, garage lovin, hi-heel and pink pant clad groovers embarked on an epic journey to share their psychosis with the world. John DeVault, Holly Scanlon, Mike Meehan, John Florence, Debora DeMarco and Eric Stumpo rocked out an ever expanding repertoire of garage classics from the 1960's (if you can remember it you weren't there...). The fledgling band attracted the attention of Tom Champlin, Eric Vandelin, Evan Williams and Mike Ripa - and created the wall of guitar sound which became indicative of Plan 9.
1981 saw the release of the first single ("Can't Stand This Love, Goodbye") quickly followed by the "Frustration" EP, lots of touring, a meeting with the (at the time) relatively unknown R K Sloane and the recording of a full length album, "Dealing with the Dead" (which was released in 1983 sporting full color florescent artwork and cool comic insert by RK Sloane). Plan 9 were nominated in 1983 for a CMJ Future Music Award, along with the Lyres.
"Five Years Ahead Of My Time" was released as a double A-side, followed by an album of rarities and stuff from the Dealing with the Dead sessions on European label New Rose. Midnight Christmas Mass included Eric's wonderful "Merry Christmas". "I've Just Killed A Man, I Don't Want To See Any Meat" was recorded live for Midnight, and we were off to sign with Enigma records and its new creation Pink Dust.
Eric, Debora, Brent Hosier, Evan Williams, Brian Thomas, Tom, Evan Laboissonniere, John F, Don Fogarty, Mike Jacobs & the late great Cub Coda settled in for "Keep Your Cool And Read The Rules". We made a film with Al-x, which recently received its final edit by John DeVault...
"Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere" saw the band rework a 1956 recording originally put out there by uncle Bobby Carl & The Blendaires, and featured the gnarly vocals of Reid Paley and sweet backup from Tanya Donnelly. Then came a jazz-psych piece ("Sea Hunt"), the imaginary soundtrack, which featured sister Becky (Sturdivant) with Eric, Debora, John F, Evan W, Tom, and Frank Villani, recorded in Texas.
"Ham & Sam Jammin" featured Mr Paul Everett on vocals for much of the record, accompanied by Eric, Debora, John F, Frank V, Kevin Fallon, Julius Borges, Marsharam Heller, Carey Monserrate, Hugh Everett and the spirit of Ben McLelland, engineered by Paul Kolderie. Ham I Am, and Sam wore a Coat of Arms The Mambo Night vid, by indie film guru John Moritsugu, briefly flirted with the MTV audience...
The early 1990's brought "Around The USA" and "Stock Footage", the latter being a compilation of music from films by Roger Corman. Then it's off to the "Pleasure Farm" with Eric, Debora, Evan L, Tom, Roger Vaughan, Steven Anderson and Kevin Fallon - released towards the end of the 1990's on J-Bird records.
"Nine Mens Misery" saw us improvise a film score for a documentary by Victor Franko about the Narragansett Indians winning a battle at a big rock in Cumberland. The Y2K bug didn't end the world as predicted and Eric, Debora, Tom, Frank and Steve jammed up a storm on "The Gathering" to celebrate. Trance-e-dellic met country in the shape of "Cow Town" featuring Eric, Debora, Ben, Tom Carmody and Dana Maguire.
Plan 9 provided a musical backdrop to Melissa Emma's spoken word which brought forth "Sour Tongue Readings - No Spitting" in 2002. Who knew Mage Knight would become the role playing action figure game from Whiz Kids? The 9 scored an infomercial for old friend Bob Fagan.
And that brought us to the studio, in advance of the upcoming release of a new album...working title HEADS...so many involved.

Plan 9 – Keep Your Cool And Read The Rules (1985 Us neo-psychedelic rock - vinyl rip - flac)

Keep Your Cool covers lots of stylistic ground, including the film noir ambience of "Street of Painted Lips" sung by DeMarco, an unclassifiable rollicking instrumental ("King 9 Will Not Return") and various stripes of '60s rock, running the stylistic gamut from Spirit to Steppenwolf. Although some are a little undeveloped, the band's songs are solid; the two covers are righteously arcane.

Reissued 1971 album. Astonishingly powerful three piece heavy metal band from the early Seventies, starring guitarist Terry Stamp. They can be heard on their 1971 album, tearing into such cuts as 'Ascension Day', which was their first single release, and eight other scorching hard rockers, including 'Get Out Of Bed You Dirty Red' and 'Preaching Violence.'
Terry Stamp and Jim Avery and company provide the perfect antidote to the complexities that became adult oriented rock. This was uncompromising honest stuff. Brilliant songs, well performed. It pre-dated pub rock, punk rock and the like and set the blueprint. If you only ever buy one rock album then make it this one.

Formed in Memphis in 1968 by Baker, who'd fronted local faves The Blazers, the initial line-up evolved to include drummer Durham, who'd been with The Group and The Rapscallions. Produced, written and arranged by Don Nix (ex-Mar-Keys and Paris Pilot) in Memphis, Moloch is an excellent blues rock album with some sound effects, noises and superb acid guitar solos by Lee Baker. Their single was recorded after the album with a later line-up and is extremely rare.
The genius of Lee Baker
Lee Baker is the greatest guitarist you have never heard of. Here is your chance. Listen to Baker alternate between fuzzy, funk blues riffing, slippery slide and stinging leads. Beale Street summer of love. Moloch is a collection of notorious Memphis musicians. Blues filtered through blotter acid. The original version of "Going Down" is here. Yes, the very same song Jeff Beck/Freddie King etc covered. Before you smugly ask, yes,Baker is the equal to Beck. He's that good. Ask Jim Dickinson. Ask Alex Chilton. Smell the psycho daisies and grab this disc. (By McCarthy Salisbury)

Originally known as Mustard. Their first vocalist Andy Mulvey had previously been with The Poets. However, he was soon replaced by David Batchelor and around the same time Gilson Lavis (their original drummer, who later played with Squeeze) was replaced by Richard Monro from Ritchie Blackmore's Mandrake Root. This line-up recorded Piggy Go Getter, which made little impact. In 1970 Hugh McKenna took over Batchelor's vocal role and Ted McKenna (ex-Dream Police) relieved Monro on drums. They recorded a second album and tried to establish themselves on the underground scene but were going nowhere with their brand of tired boogie heavy rock, until they teamed up with Alex Harvey in August 1972 to become The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. This 1st album is a real MUST for those who like UK hardrock from the early 70s.

A guitarist, singer, and young instrumental genius from Memphis who cut his first record at the tender age of twelve, Travis Wammack is one of the great unheralded guitarists of rock & roll. A contemporary of Lonnie Mack, Wammack was simply the fastest guitar player in a town bursting at the seams with great guitarists. By the time he was 17, he appeared on the national charts with "Scratchy," a speed-burner instrumental featuring incredible distortion and dazzling technique. Several incredible singles followed, but none charted. By the late '60s, Wammack had moved into session work at the FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, playing on countless hits. He continues recording and touring to the present day (recently working as musical director for Little Richard), his hot and speedy guitar chops intact. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide

Billy T.K.'s Powerhouse - Life Beyond The Material Sky (1975 new zealand psychedelic rock with great guitars - vinyl rip - flac)

From the vinyl collection of my friend Cipcal , many thanks to him ...
Billy Te Kahika (Billy T K) left Human Instinct after their 1972 tour of Australia and shortly after began recruiting for his own unit to play more fluid, rhythmic music. He convinced former Blackfeather drummer Steve Webb to come out from Australia and along second guitarist John Bilderbeck from Wanganui and Gav Collinge on bass created Powerhouse.
Initially the band worked in Wellington where at Ali Baba’s and Lucifer’s nightclubs then with only Collinge remaining from the original line-up a new unit was pulled together back in Palmerston North where Billy and promoter Murray Taylor started their own nightclub called the Boulevarde.
The new Powerhouse featured Billy on guitar, Gav on bass, Ara Mete on rhythm guitar, Jamie Tait-Jamieson on keyboards, Bud Hooper (later Neal Storey [Dragon] and Peter Kellington) on drums, Arnold Tihema on congas and lead vocals and Mahia Blackmore on vocals and percussion. Powerhouse remained in that residency about 18 months playing their own brand of contemporary South Pacific rhythms with strong Santana influences.

Billy T K has been wooing NZ audiences since the 60s with bands such as The Sinners, Human Instinct & Powerhouse.
1996 saw him on stage in Auckland playing with Carlos Santana. 2002 he was a headliner at WOMAD. These days he performs regular gigs around NZ with such artists as Billy T K Junior and Emma Paki.
2004 saw the release of his first CD of collected works spanning 30 years and includes Powerhouse tracks with Tony Littlejohn and Mahia Blackmore, studio tracks from the 80s & 90s and a track from movie about Indian mystics which Billy laid down some music for.
His music still reflects his early influences of Hendrix, Santana & McLaughlin and every time he plays the young people are gobsmacked and the oldies relive the past.

2009 Edition of 1972-1975-1980 Tapes

After three years and three albums delivering electrifying riffs as part of cult progrock trio Human Instinct, Billy T.K was ready to explore more melodic themes. Powerhouse experimented with Latin-tinged blues and funk rhythms with lush layers of vocal harmonies, brass and percussion all woven together with Billy's relentless but unmistakeable riffs and extended solos. Like so much of New Zealand's early recorded history it was feared the debut album from Billy T.K & Powerhouse had been lost forever, or worse taped over, leaving little recorded evidence of this influential guitar-driven rhythmic big band. This CD compilation of the lost Move On Up album recorded at EMI studios in 1972, with selections form the live concert at Wellington's St James Theatre in 1975 and a single recorded with session musicians in Hollywood in 1980, delivers a solid overview of post-Human Instinct Billy T.K. for the first time.

Catfish Hodge has been called an "American folk blues hero" and has been a mainstay on the American Blues music scene for three decades now! He has twenty four albums to his credit, comprised almost totally of original material. "Catfish Blues" and "Like A Big Dog Barkin’" on the Wildcat label, and "Eyewitness Blues" on Genes CD were released in 1994 and 1995. While growing up in Detroit, Hodge was sneaking into Motown Records Hitsville studio to catch the Four tops and the Supremes and grooving to R&B and Blues . He became a regular opener for Bonnie Raitt and Little Feat, who also started showing up on his recordings. When he formed the Chicken Legs Band in 1981, he was joined by Little Feat’s Paul Barrere, Richie Hayward, Kenny Gradney and Sam Clayton.
